St.Karapet Church in Nshavan, which is under construction, is located in Nshavan village, Ararat region, Republic of Armenia.
The main part of this village is the people of Morut (Znjrli) village, Vedi region who moved to Nshavan in the first half of the 20th century. All of them were extremely devoted to their ancestral sanctuary Sr.Karapet monastery, located in the vicinity of Morut (Znjrli) village area. The problem arose when it concerned the name of the church which was under consideration in this village. The majority of the villagers believed that it would be better to name the church “St.Karapet”. I suggested St.Gregory Tatevatsi because a group of sectarians were quite rooted in this village and St.Church would overcome enough difficulties to eliminate people from sectarian confusion. The foundation was filled in 2014. The foundation was delayed for days due to various reasons. Ultimately under God's providence on June 4, 2015 on occasion of St.Hovhannes Karapet and Atagines Bishop day (which is actually St.Karapet Discovery Relics for the Armenian nation) the foundation was laid and the debates ceased. The name of the church is the day of grace. It should not go unmentioned that an unknown Soldier’s Monument was erected decades ago in this area, like in all the areas of the Soviet era, but the Nshavan monument had one distinguishing feature, it had a Cross on its top.
The surrounding area was donated by the son of the Cross erector after mental suffering through the whole night and voluntarily bow before the God’s will. It is amazing but true that neither a former godless environment nor the sectarian antichurch propaganda could harm people's enthusiasm. The church was founded with great enthusiasm and with the efforts of almost the entire village, except for a small number of sects.
